Rope-swinging pensioner's fitness plan

A Chinese pensioner is urging other elderly people to follow a gymnastics programme he created using only a rope and a tree.
Huang Fugui, 64, of Chengdu, came up with his fitness plan after recovering from serious illness two years ago, reports West China City Daily.
But health experts are warning other pensioners against following his training regime which they say is far too dangerous.
Huang revealed: "I suffered a lot from illnesses and it was a heavy burden for my family, so I thought of exercising to improve my health."
He started getting up at 5am each day and exercising for two hours. At first, he used iron rings at a nearly farmers' market but traders complained he was distracting customers.
So he tied a rope to a tree outside of his house and came up with an exercise regime involving climbing, swinging upside down and bouncing on branches.
When he demonstrated his routine for journalists, it created so much attention that it caused a traffic jam: "That's why I normally do this at 5am," Huang explained.
He believes that many pensioners could benefit from the exercise plan as all they need is a rope and a tree.
"It can make elderly people have a brave heart and good health. I feel I can do something for elderly people nationwide," he said.
Qiu Jiangang, associate professor at Chengdu Sports University, said Huang's program was impressive but "should absolutely not be promoted because it's too dangerous and hard to learn".
