Tom Cruise looks set to partner Denzel Washington in David Cronenberg's new thriller The Matarese Circle.
Based on a Robert Ludlum novel, the film would find Cruise and Washington playing enemy spies, reports Variety.com.
After a lifetime of trying to kill each other, they team up against the Matarese, a powerful organisation behind a massive conspiracy.
Ludlum, who also penned the Jason Bourne franchise, originally set his thriller in the Cold War, but Michael Brandt and Derek Haas' screenplay would make the story contemporary.
Shooting could start in the summer with a view to a 2010 release.
